The Stabilisation Platform (SPF) strengthens the Federal Foreign Office’s efforts in crisis and conflict regions worldwide. It helps the Federal Foreign Office to remain effective locally through specific measures, even in difficult regions, and thus to safeguard the interests of Germany and Europe. The SPF contributes implementation expertise and flexibility for action-oriented foreign policy in crisis contexts.

The Stabilisation Platform was established to help ensure that the Federal Foreign Office can act swiftly and effectively, even in complex crisis situations. In conflict-hit countries that are particularly significant for German and European security interests, the Federal Foreign Office’s projects aim to provide impetus for prevention, conflict resolution and peace, and to strengthen legitimate state structures.

Stabilisation as an integrated foreign and security policy approach supports political processes in order to find a way out of violent conflicts, generate trust and prepare a more peaceful future. Stabilisation as part of a foreign and security policy takes targeted steps to provide incentives for strengthening, weakening or otherwise influencing selected political processes or actors in a context shaped by violent conflicts. The focus is on promoting sustainable peace and laying the foundations for political solutions. Stabilisation is an integral part of an action-oriented foreign policy.

The Stabilisation Platform was established as a proprietary brand in 2021 on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office and is hosted by GIZ. A smaller advisory team has been supporting the Federal Foreign Office since the late 2010s. The SPF brings together experienced experts to support the Federal Foreign Office in developing, planning and steering projects in complex crisis situations. The SPF is a flexible organisational unit that is allocated with resources based on the needs of the Federal Foreign Office.
